Apparently while new federal CIO Vivek Kundra, was giving a speech in FOSE 2009 conference, his old 9th floor office in the District of Columbia is being raided by FBI agents.

At the same time, Yusuf Acar, the acting CSO who worked in the office run by ex-boss Kundra, was taken into custody by FBI agents at his home in Northwest Washington.

Acar is being investigated together with an accomplice Sushil Bansal, CEO of Advanced Integrated Technologies Corp. for an elaborate scheme to cheat the city into over paying McAfee software license and “ghost” man-hour, and split the illegal gain between them.

The whole thing got unravelled when Acar revealed this to a new hirer and the new guy approached the FBI and began wearing a wire, taping their conversations.

FBI found some $70,000 in Acar’s home and the court detained him because he is considered a flight risk since he mentioned he will hide in Turkey among his relatives.

The whole thing sounds like a plot taken from a movie and would have continued undetected if Acar did not split the beans on the new hirer. Vivek Kundra has since taken leave of absence until more information is available after the investigation by the FBI.

It is also amazing to learn that this department has a whooping $69 million yearly budget, simply astonishing. It’s high time to start slashing that budget considering the current state of the economy.

Update 16 March: An article appeared in DCExaminer revealed the problem in the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) has been going on for quite some time. Employees were allowed to create their own businesses and these businesses were awarded contracts, thus, committing a “municipal incest”.

Update 18 March: Vivek Kundra is back at work on Tuesday but what is really making the news is a report in Hotair that there is an entry for a Vivek Kundra convicted  of misdemeanor theft in 1997.
